I recently got hooked on Otome games and visual novels. So much so that I acquired a decent backlog in a short amount of time, some are English-only but a lot have a Japanese option. I went a little overboard. The Nintendo Switch is a really great console for practicing Japanese. Games are region-free! I received these 2 JP titles the other day, Lover Pretend and Yunohana SpRING!, and have KLAP! on preorder. They don't have a localization yet so it's nice to have some incentive and motivation. I can't resort to switching back to English if I'm frustrated. ;3

I'm still working through Genki II slowly but when I play I can at least pick up some vocabulary if I can't get the grammar. So I'm starting out reading with a cute game called NekoPara: Catboys Paradise. It's free to pick up on Steam!

So the process I've discovered is explained _here_. I downloaded a program called Textractor and hooked it to the game. It generates the text onto a selectable and copyable page. Coupled with the Yomichan extension I can literally SHIFT+hover over kanji and get a dictionary entry and create Anki cards easily. I've decided to try again with Anki but if it doesn't work (again, for the 5th time) you can't say I didn't try. ;A; I'll at least have a list of words I've seen.

I was amazed at this program & setup and so was my partner. But I can't use it with the Switch obviously, so I'll save those for a little later.

I just wanted to get the ball rolling on my blog by listing my main resources and my planned trajectory. I started Genki I in mid-April and just finished it a couple days ago.

I'm currently going through these:I use the following to supplement for further explanation & vocabulary:I just reached level 18 of WaniKani. I started this in April 2021, paused at the end of June 2021, and resumed again in April 2022. After I finish Genki II, I want to subscribe for a month of FromZero and skim over their lessons for anything new. There is another website I have dabbled with called Satori Reader that's extremely nice. They have a range of beginner stories to intermediate and you can hover over/click words in the text and it will give you the vocab or grammar point.

So while I work with Satori Reader I'm just going to dive right into reading some Aoitori books and playing Otome Games. I've already amassed a decent collection so I can't wait to play. If I'm struggling I'll have a peak at TokiniAndy's Quartet series of videos. He is a great teacher so I highly recommend his channel. I have proven the Anki app/software doesn't grasp my attention so I hope it can only be a last resort.

What I would love to do is study streams. I would like to stream games from my Nintendo Switch and provide a mini translation if I can decipher a sentence, and look it up & explain to the void if I don't. It seems like a fun way to self-study. I kinda want a vtuber avatar but they're so expensive. I might just have to settle for an animated PNG avatar and make it myself. I'll probably never use a camera directly. ;A;

Welcome

I've been into anime & stuff since around 2001. Learning Japanese seriously since 2021, slow but steady. I'm newly into otome games and visual novels. Learn more from my carrd above! ♥
